20 min from downtown wilmington I got the salmon avocado ($5) and chicken pad thai ($13). The salmon avocado roll was packed with salmon and avocado and I think 5 bucks is pretty cheap for 6 decent sized rolls. The chicken pad thai was a good amount that would prob feed 2 people if you get some rolls on the side. I was super hungry and ate everything. I saw other people order the specialty rolls, looked good! Service is friendly, place is clean, and food comes out pretty quickly. BYOB!!!

Go to Sakura Japanese Restaurant instead. Prices are similar, Sakura Japanese Restaurant has better quality of fish I ordered a roll with eel, cucumber, and avocado and another roll with spicy tuna Quality was lacking, parts of the eel and spicy tuna were chewy Prices weren't bad, but again, I'd much rather go to Sakura Japanese Restaurant. Not interested in returning here

Been here a ton of times since my original review - consistently great. We get a variety of sushi rolls each time and always leave stuffed. The service is always quick and friendly. Love that it's BYOB. Tried the edamame once and it was meh - just had some sauce drizzled over it - wouldn't bother again. The highlights are the dynamite (even though I'm not a huge tempura fan) and south beach rolls. The scallops are AMAZING and melt in your mouth. We have to stop ourselves from coming here every time we have a chance to go out to dinner.

This place it a little out of the way for me, but it is worth the travel. Awesome sushi and unique roll options.

Came here on a last minute whim because my other spot closed down. My friend and I started with the appetizer sampler and then did the chefs choice for the entrée. The chefs choice has three options and is meant for two people. We did the $80 price point and thought it was well worth it as you get two starters before the actual sushi. The sushi comes with 10 pieces of nigiri, five different types, and three specialty rolls. Not sure if I would go the same route next time I come back because I've had better chef's choice specials but overall the sushi was excellent.

OK, My wife and I have been eating sushi since 1980, so when I say Masamoto is a great place to have sushi .....believe it. We have been here over a dozen times and we have NEVER had a bad experience. Service is good and Ukiee the owner/hostess is very accommodating. Her husband is the owner chef and does a awesome job along with the others chefs kicking it out. Decor is so-so but so what you're there for the food. Stop by you will not be disappointed. For those that experience.....it is a BYOB!

Masamoto is a cost friendly sushi spot that I recommend trying if you're in the Glen Mills, Chadds Ford area. It's also easily accessible from Delaware, specifically the Concord area and Media. We ordered a few rolls and chicken pad thai. The pad thai is probably not one of their specialties, but it is really good. It has a very sweet taste to it. They garnish it with a lot of bean sprouts, so if bean sprouts is not really your thing, tell them to hold off on the bean sprouts. As for the rolls, we ordered four: King Crab, Dynamite, Black Dragon and an Eel and Cucumber roll. The King Crab roll contained crab of course, mango, avocado and tobiko. It wasn't bad, but not one of the best rolls I've had. The Dynamite roll contains smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado, tempura kani, jalapeno and spicy chilli sauce. This roll was interesting because your taste buds are hit with the savory taste of smoked salmon and a little bit of spice between the sliced jalapeno and the chilli sauce. The Black Dragon roll was delicious. It contained shrimp tempura, avocado (I swear this is in about 95% of their rolls) and caviar topped with eel. I've come to realize I really like sushi with eel more and more. It just has a great taste when combined with the right ingredients. The eel and cucumber roll was simple, but also taste good. I definitely plan to visit again. I recommend you give this place a try. Oh, and I forgot to mention that it is B.Y.O.B. You can't go wrong with that.

First, it is part of a small strip mall, this difficult to see from the road. Second, it is BYOB. Next, the service was outstanding. Finally, I had a simple mean edamame and spicy tuna for $11 and it was really good.

Not bad but not great either, I'm guessing people have different standards when it comes to sushi depending where you're from. Being that I live in SoCal I was hoping this place would live up to the 4 star reputation but it definitely fell short. The oysters were awesome but the sushi just wasn't as "fresh" as I'm used to and the edamame (something I thought was impossible to mess up, was extremely soggy) the Salmon sashimi tasted good but I'm shocked by how small the slices were since they were less than half the size I'm used to and cost more to boot. Overall I wasn't impressed but I also didn't hate it, I just likely won't be back and will probably just wait on eating sushi again till I get back to California or when I'm dining in the city.

Fantastic sushi and asian BYOB restaurant in Glen Mills near Glen Eagle shopping center. Been here a few times with friends and have always had great experiences here. It gets pretty busy around 7pm and probably because it's the best sushi place in the area. When it is very busy, sometimes the service lowers but that is to be expected at any restaurant. I had a chance to chat with the owner recently and learned that fresh fish are hand picked by him straight from the Philadelphia fish market and later served to customers. Can't get more fresh than that! Sushi: Tons of choice for rolls. If you like the staples such as California/Philly/Spicy Tuna/etc then they have those. If you like speciality rolls then they have around 40 of them. They have an adequate selection of vegetarian rolls including eggplant/sweet potato/oshinko and more. My friends and I usually order the Sashimi Platter which is always served on top of ice which keeps the fish at an ideal temperature. A friend of mine who is a sashimi enthusiant commented on their excellent quality. Although I have yet to order the Omakase (chefs choice), it is something that I want to try asap! The only gripe I have about the sushi is that I am used to and prefer a bit more rice on my rolls. Everything is still delicious though. Entrees: They have a great selection of noodles (lo mein, pad thai, udon, chow ho fun, pho), meat dishes (peking duck, general tso, teriyaki), fish (golden fish, sea bass, salmon), rice dishes (curry, fried rice), and they even have crab cakes and Korean Kal-Bi if you like that. Masamoto is great for a date, family dinners, or just a night out with friends. Update 4/15: After having gone to several different sushi places in the area, none compares to Masamoto... Even their entrees are top notch.

Best spicy tuna roll!!! We used to live nearby but now drive from an hour away to get our sushi fix. Rolls are really small so make sure to order enough but the quality can't be beat.

  • Andres L.

Yelp you're wrong, masamoto is open Sundays. Anyways, sushi here is decent. Fish isn't the freshest but if you're looking for rolls you could do worse. The standouts are the Vietnamese roll, spicy scallop roll, rainbow roll, Dragon roll and Godzilla roll. The rest were ok: masamoto, rainbow and sashimi. Prices are good relative to regular and specialty rolls. Apps were lacking but it's a sushi place so I didnt mind. Places started to fill up on a Sunday evening.

Ordered a $28 baked sea bass, got a small piece of deep fried fish on a big plate with a pink flower flower and a leaf. When I told I don't want it they came one after another explaining they can't take it back. In general - overpriced mediocre food.

I so wanted to love this place bc it's close to home and has such great reviews. I have eaten in once and had take out a handful of times. Each takeout experience was mediocre, good enough for us to come back...until this last time. We ordered the tom yum koong soup, home made dumplings, hamachi Kama, age tofu, the sashimi platter and two specialty rolls. The food was ok, but for the price, the portions are very small and the quality wasn't enough to make up for the size.

I've been here numerous times and the food and service is always excellent. Try the Pad Thai Noodles and Volcano Roll! This place is a BYOB, so make sure you bring your favorite bottle of wine.

Delicious and beautifully presented as always. We have eaten here several times in the past and have not been disappointed. Sushi is some of the best in the area, and we always order General Tso chicken and fried rice for my son and it's always great too! Definitely worth a visit!

The lunch specials and bento box are a great deal and the food is SO good! Best sushi in the area!! Highly recommend the dragon roll, rainbow roll and the spicy tuna. The shrimp fried rice is amazing. Huge shrimp in perfectly seasoned rice. Yum. The noodle dishes are ok. Most people come for the sushi but I can tell you it's all good! The decor is modern and sleek and the bathrooms are cool and CLEAN (an important sign of a clean restaurant). Definitely has a good vibe and the food rocks. 2 thumbs up!

So as a disclaimer- I worked here when the restaurant first opened (Fall '07-Fall '08) in fact I was employee #3 after owners Jonny and Yuki. I did it because I loved sushi and used to follow Jonny to his other restaurants and figured that I could bum some food off of him... and I wasn't disappointed. The restaurant has changed quite a bit in style since the beginning but still delivers quality fish and food as a whole at a good price. The owners prided themselves on not raising prices dramatically which hit servers hard but people started coming in droves. Be wary if the place is packed, sometimes the orchestration between the sushi and the kitchen can get wonky so your fried roll components may get a bit soggy but still quite tasty. Is this the BEST sushi I've had? No. But for the price and location (in a strip mall up the road from Delaware...) it's a pretty good option for a quick and reasonable meal. The lunch specials (all days but sunday) are a great deal particularly if you like the Chirashi (assorted fish over rice.) To comment on another post about the Corkage Fee. A bunch of the original customers actually supported the act but the owners resisted. The only reason they went to it was because they were breaking a case of wine glasses every weekend... Not exactly great when people overindulge. Try the Godzilla Roll, Masamoto/Naruto, and the Hamachi Kama. The homemade wontons are a favorite of my entire family and don't pass on the sweet golden fish if you are in the mood for a whole fried snapper. Oh and our staple is the peking duck followed by Chow Ho Fun. Get it spicy and ask for a bit of bokchoy in it- quite a nice contrast.

Had a great dinner with friends here. Sushi was cold and fresh. Kitchen entrees were very tasty, and dessert was delicious. Service was attentive. Only small "meh" is that they charge a corking fee for each bottle, which I get, since most BYOBs do. We brought three bottles and all were screw tops. The server opened the first, we opened the second, and the third was never opened. We were charged for all three. No big deal, but we noticed it when the check came. Such a huge selection of rolls....my mouth is watering thinking about how delicious! Note- parking often gets tight. Lots of businesses share this lot.

This was our sushi place when we lived in Glen Mills. The sushi was almost always very good and sometimes amazing. They make the rolls small so youre not just getting stuffed on rice. The prices were pretty reasonable when we last were there a couple years ago but we did notice that it seemed the size of the rolls were shrinking a bit. Good miso soup. Nice atmosphere. Friendly owners who know their regulars. Byob.

My food tasted fine, and the menu selection was decent, but there are too many things that make no sense. They walk around pouring room temperature water. They serve soup with a rather flat spoon. My waitress didn't know the special. They have a narrow area with 4-seat tables, and they sat 2 parties with 5 guests at both entrances to this area. Back to the food, I had Miso Soup, a Philly Roll, Dragon Roll, and Spicy Eel somethin-Roll. I think the Dragon was missing eel sauce, but it was tasty. The other diners had Tuna, Salmon and Yellowtail sushi. they enjoyed it. We also shared an Elvis Roll... very awesome, I took a photo. I probably will go here again, because it's so close to me. But I will explore other options.

Far and away the best in the area. I love the Chinese dumplings as well as the sushi / sashimi offerings. Pretty far from where we live but worth the trip every time.

BYOB, conveniently located to my family home, and, when you're done, you could go get a manicure. Not much to complain about this little sushi spot. Very bare bones decor, but it gave a nice clean feeling to the place. My brother, sister, and I stopped in for lunch and enjoyed some bento boxes and lunch specials. Started off with some little salads and hot and sour soups. The soups were very tasty, though the lettuce in the salads tasted far too much like an iceberg (as in there may have been some bits of ice on it). For $9, along with the salad and soup, I got 2 small sushi rolls. Salmon + avocado and Tuna + avocado. Heavy on the ginger for me, though the soy sauce tasted a little funny to me (almost metallic? I don't know, I'm not a soy sauce aficionado.) My little sister got a bento box and that was definitely a great bang for your buck if you'd like to taste a little bit of everything. Spring roll, California roll, sticky rice, and beef and broccoli. Not too shabby.

Disappointed is the best word to use to describe how I feel about my experience here. I chose this place as it seemed to have some decent reviews but I really was not impressed. I was seated at my table and it seemed a little empty. There was a napkin, my chopsticks and my glass of water. I thought there should have been a plate or something to put my sticks down on but I guessed they would bring it out with my food. I ordered the calamari as an app and a few special sushi rolls. As soon as my server went into the kitchen, she came right back out with my appetizer. WTH? How could that be? Was it precooked? As I was digging through it it seemed that most of my plate consisted of crumbs and semi warm calamari. I had a small mini boll of chili sauce to dip it in but the bowl was so shallow that I could barely get any. Oh, and still no extra plate. This made eating and moving things around a bit of a chore. My 3 rolls came out and they looked tasty but were also very small. There was no girth to them. When it comes to sushi, size DOES matter, and these rolls were not pleasing me one bit lol. They were tasty but barely an inch thick. If I am spending $13 on a specialty roll, I expect more out of it. I could go on and write plenty more about this place but it would only remind me of my disappointment so I will leave it at this. I will not be giving this place a try in the future. The food was tasty but the experience and the satisfaction were far from it. I could have gotten much more for me $53 someplace else.

This place has good Zagat ratings and got a rave recommendation from a friend. I ordered two sushi rolls as takeout. HOWEVER I wasn't even able to eat my sushi because a live bug was running around the inside of my container. Good thing I saw the cockroach-looking bug (didn't look close enough to confirm if it was indeed a cockroach!) before I touched my sushi. I would have gagged if I started eating then saw the bug.

Don't be fooled by the strip mall, low maintenance decor or size of this joint. I can't speak for this part of PA, but for Wilmington peeps this is the BEST sushi in our area. I drive past all those other spots to get to Masamoto. Plus it's cheap and BYOB. Don't sleep on their non-sushi dishes either. Gyoza is killer

REALLY delicious sushi and reasonable prices. I got the lobster tail roll and the hello tuna roll: both very good. My girlfriends got the filet mingon roll which sounded very different, but they loved loved loved it! They ordered another bc it was so good. This is also a BYOB so with the reasonable prices and bringing your own booze, you end up getting a good deal.

This place was pretty decent. My husband and I ordered 2 spider rolls, Kim's roll, oyster roll, and black dragon roll - all tasted great. And I loved their miso soup! Just wished it was a bigger bowl but for $2 you get what you pay for. I also ordered hot tea thinking it'd come in a little tea kettle and small tea cups (the usual at chinese/Japanese restaurants) but all I got was a regular mug with boiling hot tea - not what I was hoping for but that's ok. My husband and I love sushi and Masamoto did an overall decent job satifying our craving.

My wife and I have been coming here for years now. Introduced to it by good friends. Definitely our favorite sushi place in the area. In addition to great rolls and sashimi, their curries and Asian dishes are top notch. This is one of those places where it's hard to find a bad dish. Highly recommend the Vietnamese roll, black bean chicken, beef negamaki roll, and yellow tail shoulder when available.

We were starving. After hearing rave reviews from a coworker of mine, we were finally heading to Masamoto! First impressions: too damned bright and a little low rent. We sat at the sushi bar where we were greeted by dusty soy dishes and leftover crumbs and itamae (sushi chefs) that could care less that we were there. Our server was not bad except for the restaurant gossip that she was engaging in with another server well within ears shot (especially considering the music was barely audible). Soups: my girl ordered miso soup (pretty darn good, but also pretty hard to mess up), and I got "Tom Yam Koong" a spicy citrus broth with mushrooms, bell peppers, and shrimp. That is A shrimp. Singular. Anyway, the mushrooms were rubber. Inedible. The broth was nice though. This early on in our meal we were not writing them off, just not blown away yet. Heck, we didn't even taste the Sushi yet! Sushi, or last straw: we ordered 2 specialty rolls "mango" and "volcano". Chef 1 started to make a roll immediately, while chef 2 periodically disappeared behind a curtain. Chef 1 plates what is presumably our mango roll (crunchy spicy tuna, mango, eel) and sets it up on the ledge. It sits there as she finishes her soup. It stays there as I finish my soup. It teases us up there as we sit and stare at it. I finally asked the server, who was standing at the end of the sushi bar chatting, if it was ours. Yes, but as I reach for it, mama san (whom I presume is the owner) tells me is not ready yet. But it's been sitting up there... No more than 30 second later we heat the distinct ding! of a toaster oven and our volcano roll (chopped kani, spicy shrimp, scallion, sriracha sauce) is plated with the mango roll. Apparently NOW it's ready. Mango roll was mush. No distinguishable taste of tuna, no crunch. Not disgusting, but not good either. Volcano roll was definitely in a toaster oven. It is a warm roll of lifeless filling overly spicy to hide the fact that it had NO flavor. My girl only ate on piece. Again, we were so hungry. We had seen enough. Got the check, paid, and went to one of our favorite sushi spots, Le Shio, for a wonderful night cap

This is the best sushi I've come across in the Wilmington area. I have never been disappointed and I have never had sushi here that was less than fresh and skillfully prepared. Their specialty rolls are creative and satisfying (Some places have gimmicky combinations that don't really work... not here!). I usually stick with sushi/sashimi though because the fish is such high quality, and speaks for itself. I can't comment on their cooked entrees as I"ve only had sushi here. The place can get pretty packed and loud on a weekend night...but that's for a good reason. Side note: you can't make a reservation for less than 4 people.

We dropped by for lunch and I didn't particularly love the food. They have a special lunch menu and I ended up getting the General Tso's bento box. The chicken didn't taste too fresh and they overdo it with the sauce.....way too sweet! The spring rolls weren't that great either, a bit on the dry side. Maybe the sushi is the way to go here but I wasn't impressed by the Chinese side. The decor is a little strange. Felt like the place was still under construction. It just didn't feel very cozy. One a good note, our server was very attentive and friendly and the prices seemed reasonable. I'd stay away from the Chinese dishes.

Masamoto has been a favorite of mine ever since it opened. The sushi always tastes fresh, and the roll creation is the most adventurous in the area. Combine that with the incredibly fair prices and BYOB, and it's hard to find a better sushi spot locally. That atmosphere is intentionally minimalist, with abrupt color changes, so I don't agree with some of the comments I've read that claim it appears to be "unfinished" looking. I took my current girlfriend there for our first date, and ordered the "Godzilla" roll specifically to serve as an ice breaker. When someone has to attempt to fit that roll in their mouth in front of you, there's no way to take things too seriously afterward! Masamoto may not be comparable to sushi places in "The Big City", but it's a damn fine experiece in the Wilmington/Glen Mills/Chadd's Ford area, and I can't think of a similar place with a better taste to dollar ratio.

I went with sushi loving friends. It's a sushi restaurant so as a non-sushi eating girl, I can't do much complaining. My typical white girl non-sushi selection was good. It was chicken with broccoli. It was very tasty. The sushi lovers really liked their selections. The server was great and it was very clean in there. Good stuff.

Our favorite. My husband didn't even like sushi until he set foot in here, and we make the hike from Elkton just to indulge here, and we are never disappointed. Byob, excellent service, ambiance... The Vietnamese roll is my favorite.

The freshest fish in town. Always good. The owners are wonderful and very appreciative of your busy. Great service and the sushi is the best I've ever had. Reasonable prices, great decor, good service, and BYOB! How can you lose? Go tonight.

Usually I know better than to order sushi from an "Asian Grill" (this place serves Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese AND Korean dishes), but I was in the neighborhood and this place had the best reviews. If all you're looking for is a decent California roll, you could probably do worse than Masamoto. If you're trying to find fresh, high quality sushi, though, this is NOT the place to go. The good: We ordered take-out. It was ready quickly, and the seaweed wrappers were still crisp when we ate. Of the rolls we ordered, the yellowtail scallion roll was actually quite tasty. No complaints about the sweet potato roll either; the tempura retained a reasonable crunch. The mediocre-to-bad: The rest of our order was somewhere between average and lousy. The salmon (as sashimi and in a salmon avocado roll) wasn't bad, but it also wasn't as flavorful or buttery as it should have been. My biggest complaint, though, was the tuna avocado roll. I'm actually astonished that the sushi chef let it out from behind the bar. The tuna had a greyish tinge, and the taste was decidedly off. It was either old, stored improperly, or both. We threw it away after once piece. An "Asian Grill" doesn't have to serve the best sushi, but at an absolute minimum the fish should be fresh. This isn't the worst sushi I've ever had, but there's no chance I'll be back.

My Mom made a reservation at Masamoto for my birthday. It happened to be the same night a large work group (6 tables) was having dinner there as well, so we got kinda lost in the shuffle. We waited about 20 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. Once they did, we asked for water, which was spilled on me. No big deal. Our server was nice, everything came out correctly and hot. It was good! I need to go back on a night when there is not a work group there that demands all of the servers' attention. Also, Masamoto is BYOB, which is so wonderful.

Excellent little spot! Go between 11-3 for their sushi specials. Try the mango roll and spicy tuna roll. Small but not too small, 8-rolls per order.

I admit , I wound up in Massamoto the second time by accident. I met friends for lunch at a neighboring hoagie shop on a Monday...and the hoagie shop was closed. "OK, where to next?" A pause. "How about that sushi place around the corner?" Thirty minutes later, I am staring down one of the most perfectly prepared lunch bento boxes in my life. And as I gobbled everything down, I was even more surprised. I had been there for lunch before sharing some rolls with a colleague, and everything was awesome. The Bamboo Roll and the Strawberry Rolls are must for first timers. I've since been back again for a full on dinner, and each time these folks are just nailing it. BYOB !

I have never heard of Masamoto until the day before I dined there. A friend suggested it, and I always thought that I knew where to get good sushi and if I didn't hear about it therefore it wasn't good. Well..I was wrong!! Masamoto is a non pretentious great sushi spot, and it's BYOB. The rolls are very creative, and fresh. We ordered The black dragon roll (Shrimp tempura, avocado, and caviar topped with eel) The Wilmington Roll (Tuna, spicy mayonnaise caviar avocado and scallion, wrapped in kelp seaweed and deep fried then topped with tobiko) Hello Tuna Roll (Tempura shrimp inside, topped with tuna, avocado, tempura flakes and tobiko) Volcano Roll ( Chopped kani and spicy shrimp, scallion and sriracha sauce) Mango Roll (Crunchy spicy tuna, eel and mango) and the Firecracker Roll (Tuna, avocado, and kani, deep fried, topped with chili sauce and Japanese mayonnaise) They were all well prepared and beautifully served. If you're not sure what to order, order the ones I listed. I am looking Forward to The Whole Lobster Roll on my next visit, which is 1.25 Lb. Lobster, spicy tuna, eel, wasabi tobiko. I highly recommend Masamoto.

The map has this in the wrong location. It is on Rt 202 and not Rt 1. The food was very good. But I went with the expectation of something more. Everyone I spoke with raved about the food and I didn't find it better then some of the other good sushi places in the area. The wanton soup and shumai were very good and my sushi was decent, but not the best. Many of the other sushi places in the area have a nice décor and nicer location, but overall I liked it and will be back.....after trying the 20 other sushi places in the area. The restaurant was fairly small and very plain. The servers were friendly.

Always a great experience. I've never had a bad meal or roll. Decor is a little bland, but for me that's part of the charm of it being a good sushi place k known for its food. And we dont have to drive to Philly!

  • Chelsea E.

My boyfriend and I love this place! The staff is always welcoming and accomodating. Another plus is that it is a BYOB with no corkage fee (yet another plus!) We don't usually get the hot food; but friends that we have brought enjoyed some yummy items. (sorry can't name any off the top of my head) We throughly enjoy the sushi/sashimi platter; the spicy tuna tartar; the firecracker roll (spicy) as well as the happy yellowtail. Be sure to try the live whole scallop (when they have it). The prices are reasonable (especially for the quality of the food). If you like sushi (or LOVE, in my case) you should definetly try it. This place is casual; so jeans and a nice shirt will do just fine.

I went here based on the Yelp reviews on a weekend night as I was really craving sushi, and the place was really crowded. There wasn't an empty seat to be found, so I took that as a good sign, and my boyfriend and I decided to wait for a table. They said it would be about 20 minutes, but it really only took about 10, because two seats opened up at the sushi bar. I wasn't expecting too much because after having lived in Japan, I know that most of the food in the states isn't even really Japanese, but an Americanized version. I've come to accept that, so I was just expecting westernized rolls. If you want real Japanese food, you really shouldn't be looking for it in the Philadelphia area. New York City would be a better bet. However, I was really happy at the fact that they had some rolls with Shiso, a Japanese herb known in English as Perilla leaf, incorporated into some of the rolls. That's the main reason I decided to come here. I have been craving that flavor for quite a long time. After we were seated, it took a little while for our order to be taken, but that is to be expected when a place is that busy. We ordered some sushi combinations, which were reasonably priced. The sushi chefs were really busy behind the counter and working hard to get the items out. However, the plates began getting jammed and we saw my boyfriend's order sit there for a while long before it was served to him. I could have reached it myself, but that just would not have been the proper thing to do, especially if I was incorrect. I watched server by server just stand by the sushi bar and not take the plates that were piling up. There seemed to be some confusion over which order went to which table. Finally they gave my boyfriend his food, but mine was no where to be found. He was half finished when the waitress asked the chef to make mine. There seemed to be a problem with communication. So, I finally got my food and it was okay, but nothing to write home about. Nothing I ate was particularly bad, but nothing was really that good either. The shiso and salmon skin was okay, but the fishy flavor of the salmon skin overpowered the shiso, making it hard to even taste, and shiso and usually really strong. My other rolls were overpowered by the sauce and I could not taste the fish. If you have really good fresh fish, you don't need all those sauces. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise though because my boyfriend very rarely complains about anything, but he said his tuna (he had nigiri) tasted metallic. We've lived in Japan and used to eat sashimi and nigiri on a weekly basis at local izakaya's, so we know if fish doesn't taste right. So, due to the lack of communication between the kitchen and the waitstaff and the sub-par food, I don't think I'll be going out of my way to come back here any time soon.

Nowhere are you able to find all of the fantastic features this place offers, well, nowhere near Delaware! Seriously, this restaurant is perfect if you want the real deal and the decor is perfect. Not too modern but certainly not like its trying to be something its not. What you have are knowledgable servers and chefs that know how to help you find just the right mix! I wanted to have sushi so that's what I had, next time (very soon!) I will be having the Pad Thai noodles! It is not just sushi, it is real authentic cuisine something that is sorely lacking in Delaware and the outlying area. Very clean and well maintained too, someone's been trying to dig into this places reach by saying things that are just not factually accurate, this is the real deal!

If you are in Chadd's Ford, and you like sushi, it's worth checking this place out. It's not fabulous sushi, but it's solid. We had three different roles, my favorite being the shrimp tempura with raw salmon. The Hello Salmon role came in second. My least favorite was the eel role. Though our waitress was friendly, she had times when she ignored us, which was annoying. Don't forget it's BYOB! FYI: The Whole Foods just down the street (and across the road) sells beer. One last thing: the map took us to some back road about 2 miles away because the address starts with "Keystone Plaza", which was very annoying.

The food is ok. I had better Sushi somewhere else. I agree with many review, The roll is small, expensive, BYOB, but charge corking fee $3. Also if you want to add crunchy or anything to your roll, there is charge. Service is average, but after you finish your food, they seem to rush you out by dropping check right away. I think over all experience is average. But, I like the other Japanese restaurant close by, Bluefin, better, roll is bigger, nicer inside, no Corking fee. You will be the judge, that was my experience.

I've been here twice now, once for lunch and once for dinner. For lunch I had the Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura Bento Box, which has huge pieces of shrimp and a good amount of veggies. It also comes with Miso Soup, white rice, spring roll AND a california roll all for $9.00. I feel like that's a great deal. Dinner I shared a sushi and sashimi combo (12 pieces of sashimi and 5 pieces of sushi with a California roll), which comes with a soup which my bf chose Miso. I also ordered Tom Yam Koong for myself and it was so yummy. We also wanted to try one of their specialty rolls so we went with the Firecracker Roll (una, avocado, and kani, deep fried, topped with chili sauce and Japanese mayonnaise), It was pretty delicious. I thought dinner was great but my boyfriend's only gripe with the place is they sat us right next to the kitchen curtain and all the servers were apparently standing right behind me. He felt like they were constantly looking over at us and listening to our conversation.

Fantastic Quality sushi, created well, with good service. I couldn't ask for a better sushi experience and hadn't had one since I left California. Their specialty rolls were fantastic and come in a wide range of prices and their basic rolls are cheaper, very fresh (color on my tuna avocado roll was stunning) and not overburdened by rice. I really recommend this fine location

I love, love love this place! I would never have expected a sushi place in a strip mall with a 5 Guys Burger and Fries to be this good. The sushi is fresh, delicious and super affordable. I've tried TONS of different rolls from their sushi menu and have never been disappointed. The cooked entrees are great too, I only sampled a few (I come for the sushi) but my picky friend loved her teriyaki chicken dish. I even had a birthday dinner there and they accommodated our large party very well for such a small restaurant. Great prices. Great menu. BYOB!!! I will continue to visit Masamoto's every time I crave sushi.

First and foremost, this place is not in Philadelphia. Its in Delaware (or damn near). Its a good 40 minute drive from Philly. Its in an unassuming strip center. Don't care for the BYOB but that's their deal. Everything about this place gave me trepidation - the location, the waitress, the setting. And then the food started coming. And it was awesome! The gyoza appetizer was really good. The sushi was outstanding. It was fresh and flavorful. The chicken lo mein was as good as I've had anywhere. Wasn't just ecstatic about the rolls, but I'm kind of picky on my rolls. If I lived in or was visiting Philadelphia I would come here infrequently. Not because its not good enough but simply because its too long a haul. If I lived in Glen Mills (btw - its not in Chadds Ford like their ads say???) I would come here 2 to 3 times a week. Its that good. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure I've been to an asian restaurant that does so many regional asian cuisines (Chinese, Korean, Thai, Japanese) so well. That being said, it is, and should be, known for its sushi. Smiley face (and star if it wasn't so far).

RISE OOOO SAMURAI TO SHOW US YOUR SWORDS SKILLS and give us some SUSHI tooo :-) If you are driving through Chadds Ford PA and or are living here you should definitely stop by Masamoto Super Samurai Chefs. These experts of knifes know a thing or two in how to slice dice or protect the name of Sushi. You don't want to mess with them when they have knifes in their hands :-). Well enough said here are my bullet points: Ambiance: modern decorations with warm colors, open sushi preparation provides a show component. Apparently Masamoto stands for sushi knife. The citrus broth soup Tom yam Kong has been made with fresh ingredients. The flavor is fresh and amazingly well balanced. Sweet and sour soup was amaZing as the ingredients were not mushy they had good texture. Having a great sweet and sour soup gets you high. Or it at least gets me there :-) The Masamoto roll stands out as a refreshing ultra super creation. When I ate it first I felt strong flavors of the sauce which left it self to salmon and tuna flavors I was already feeling that my hair was standing up and my eyes were starting to roll when it simply punched me back to reality with the cucumber finishing the experience. I suddenly heard these voices whispering: FRESH TANZ you are now. Ready for one more you shall be. For another you shall goooo. When I realized that I had gone in to a food trans and spoke to my small hero Yoda I realized I simply am in a great place. We alsooo had the Tuna Tartar. I wasn't as sure about the presentation. It seemed plain to me. BUT WHEN I TASTED IT I UNDERSTOOD ONCE AGAIN that I was truly in a unique environment where the Samurai Chefs do not joke around. Simply amazing flavor. Some crunchiness?? WHat?? There was a crunch in the Tuna Tartar? Wow, It tasted like bliss. I could not stop there. Spicy Tuna Roll. The tuna here is not as cookie cutter as other places. It screams I am fresh. I am different. And as soon as you take a bite you understand why. I asked the waiter if they had any wine and they enlightened me that at Masamoto you bring your own booze to the party. So next time you come don't be empty handed you Tanz Man. AND HERE COMES THE C R A Z Y. ALL THIS FOR 31 BUCKS. ???? Are you kidding me??. I love you Samurai So after all this I will have to travel to Chadds Ford PA to eat great sushi. Travel for 2 hours from DC. To CHadds Ford. To eat the sushi. Any chance in convincing these chefs to open in DC? :-). Common people. Lets start a petition. It surely is worth it for great sushi. Tanz

This place has a fast lunch menu. a decent bento box, and a no frills staff. Some of the BYOB places like up charging you then pulling the whole "We don't know English or common sense thing" but none of that here. They are friendly, quick.....and well the portions are pretty hearty...nothing more i could ask for. why didn't i give 5 stars.......i only went for lunch. i saw a lot of what could be consider regulars. don't let the lack luster decor fool you either they are really cooling in that kitchen.

First impression: Well, this place is pretty crowded, but for a Friday night at 6:30, where wouldn't there be a crowd? The vibe hear screams fast food, and doesn't give that authentic asian dining experience that I've come to expect. Atmosphere: The dining area was noisy and cramped, with tables packed tightly together in order to accommodate the most guests rather than provide the highest quality experience. Style and Design: The style felt a bit mismatched as far as the paint and decorative theme, beckoning for a remodel; the dividing wall in the dining area looked like it was straight out of an 80's strip club, whereas the paint scheme was reminiscent of a southwestern Mexican restaurant. Staff: My personal take on the staff was mixed, since some of the servers seemed upbeat and exorbitant, whereas others displayed no desire to be working here, and provided customers (including myself) with poor service. The hostess was quick to sass me when I asked about the Bento boxes on the menu, and provided suggestions such as specials or general recommendations. Price/Quality: I feel that the prices for the sushi here are a bit high for the quality, which I found to be very sub-par. The sushi rolls were loosely rolled, which allowed them to fall apart easily, and the presentation was shanty at best. Above all else the presentation was extremely poor. My conclusion: I say if you're looking for a comfortable dining experience with a soothing ambiance, keep it moving. This place is loud and crowded, with a staff that is less than enthusiastic about pleasing the customer. For the price there are far better options within a ten mile radius. The only thing keeping this above a one star rating is the ease of access in a shopping center with plenty of parking, as long as the surrounding businesses aren't busy. My recommendation: If you're looking for good sushi, friendly staff, and a comfortable, authentic Asian dining experience check out Lily Asian Cuisine on State street in Kennett Square. The food at Lily is much higher quality, and I can promise your experience will be much more enjoyable, and worth the price!

I have been many times but last night to let my girlfriend try it. For an appetizer we ordered the fried calamari which was some of the best I have had. We ordered three of the specialty roll which we both thought were great. The only disappointment was the wait time for our food. It was busy but to wait 25 min for your appetizer and another 15 for your rolls is unacceptable. I'm in the area a few times a month so will give it another shot because the food is so good. Hopefully it was just a fluke.

I've been here about 10 times now. The quality of the sushi ranks with the best spots in the city (Zento and Morimoto, I'm talking about you) at about 50% less cost. The downside? You're waiting for a table even with a reservation (waits of 30-60 minutes are common on a weekend night). It's in a strip mall on the outskirts of the Philly/Wilmington suburbs. It's worth a visit if you're in the area. My favorite items (read: I get them every time) are the spicy scallop roll and the hamachi shoulder.

BYOB, reasonably priced, and features simple yet inventive rolls and appetizers. We shared a sashimi meal that was like butter, a spicy tuna roll wrapped in sping mix with cucumber & caviar. They have fried calamari rolls, panko oysters with spicy tuna.... I have been daydreaming about it all day. Three of us shared: Gyoza - amazing Seaweed Salad Avocado Salad- standard ginger salad topped with fresh avocado & sesame seeds Chicken Lettuce Wraps- decent Tuna Pizza - not as good as Buddakan's, but good Masamoto Roll- salmon, tuna, avocado, & red tobiko, wrapped in cucumber and served with ponzu Vietnamese Roll- spicy tuna & cucumber wrapped in spring mix king crab roll with mango wrapped in rice paper Chirashi- addictive Total- $31pp before tip Result- best sushi experience that I've had in quite some time.

This is definitely a place for sushi beginners, but not seasoned pros. If you want to eat udon noodles with a ladle, this is your place. I came here on Wednesday for lunch with my aunt for the lunch special. There was only one table when we arrived, but they had a few take out orders. I decided to order two rolls for $8 [which came with a choice of soup (miso or hot and sour) and a small salad), which seemed like a pretty good deal. My aunt got the udon noodle soup for $7. Pros & Cons: +Decent Lunch Menu Deals. -Grocery Store Quality Sushi. -Slow Service. Food: I decided to order the spicy tuna roll and yellowtail roll. Once the sushi chef finished making my rolls, he let them sit on the bar -_- This was really frustrating, because I was hungry! I would have much rather put those sushi roll in my belly than having them just wait on the bar! When the waitress brought my plate over, I was really disappointed. It was my fault for expecting too much from the good reviews on yelp, but they gave me 6 pieces of yellowtail and 8 pieces of the spicy tuna. The yellowtail pieces were about nickel size... Both of my rolls were very underwhelming. Seriously, I prefer sushi from my grocery store in Seattle over the rolls I had here :/ My aunt also had a poor experience. Her udon noodles came in a ridiculously huge bowl with a mofo-ing ladle. Who eats udon with a ladle!? Wtf. She let me try her soup; I thought the noodles were gummy, and the broth was bland. Service: Midway through our meal, the lunch crowd arrived (aka 10 tables). I felt sorry for the waitress. She was working by herself, while they had three sushi chefs rolling sushi -_- I feel like having another waiter than another sushi chef would have been better for serving so many tables. Since she was waiting all of the tables, service was really slow. We had to flag down the host to get our bill. Bottom Line: This is a good place to introduce your friends to sushi; however, I wouldn't say this is the real deal or quality sushi that I would come back for.

Delicious! Great selection of fresh, reasonably priced sushi. Their General Tso is probably the best I've ever had. Also they have an excellent bento lunch deal. Most importantly... it's BYOB!

I've driven by this place like a zillion times and never even noticed it. This place is hidden and the only reason I went there is because I got invited for a birthday dinner there. As soon as walked in I really dug the aesthetic of it; it felt Japanese. Sushi bar with legit Japanese bros, check; Japanese looking art, check; bright colors of walls, super check; etc. As a huge fan of Japanese art and culture I appreciate that sort of thing more than most. The menu there offers a extensive selection that overwhelmed me at first. Luckily for me the server was patient and diligent with us. The food arrive in an incredible fashion and everyone's plate looked amazing. Since this is a BYOB restaurant my friends brought their own wine/spirits and they provided us with wine glasses for all at no cost. Overall I had a great time there and I would recommend a visit. The only reason I'm not going for a five rating is because I feel it is missing a "Je ne sais quoi" factor to take it to that level.

My wife and I have been going to Masamoto for a couple years now. We found it on another on-line rating site and did not know what to expect due to its location (shopping center). Needless to say we have been back 8-10 times since the first time and have trouble eating sushi anywhere else since other places can not compare. The sushi is the best I have had in the area and I could not ask for anything different Masamoto since I have come to love everything they have to offer at this point even the fact it is located in a shopping center!

I'm not a sushi fan but the person I went here with was and I could tell by the presentation that it was quality. I, myself, ordered from the entree menu -- General Tso's Chicken, and it was wonderful. Nothing like anything you'd get at your run-of-the-mill Chinese take-out place, and it actually had a spicy kick to it. The garden salad that I started my meal with was fresh and crisp. The restaurant is spotless and the staff was very courteous. One qualm is that my soda came in a can -- seems a bit tacky to me. Up the presentation there a notch and it's five-stars. Also, the chocolate truffle was out of this WORLD.

I really wanted to like this place, especially after reading all the good reviews. Not sure if we just happened to come on a bad day, but the food was really lackluster. The best thing we ordered was the appetizer sampler, and even that was par for the course, at best. We ordered four rolls: Spicy Scallop, Firecracker, Rainbow, and Greenville. All four were extremely bland (even the Firecracker, which was touted as being "spicy"). Personally, I think if you're paying $50+ for a meal, it should be seasoned well, and sushi rolls, in particular, have so much potential to be wonderfully tasty; it's always a disappointment to have to use soy sauce. Nevertheless, hoping to spice things up by muddling some wasabi into their soy sauce, I was let down again; I'm not sure if it's the brand of soy or what, but it was like dunking tasteless mush rolls into brown water. Even when the server was kind enough to bring me the full sodium version of the soy, it was still tasteless. Sadly, we will not be back, which is unfortunate, as the server was very nice and I like the unpretentious, laidback vibe. Oh, well...

I've been to Masamoto's about 10 times and I'm always impressed. We had been going to Jasmine, in Wilmington, and noticed the food was starting to suck a little, and we found out the chef had left to open Masamoto's. And it's a BYOB! And the food itself is a great deal! The Sashimi deluxe is a great value, the pieces have always been very generous. The sushi is always great too, but they have some exceptional entrees, like the Chilean sea bass (most places don't do it quite right; they do), whole red snapper, and Peking duck. They also have stand bys like spring rolls, gyoza, edamame, general tsoas chicken, pad thai, so it's good for kids or picky eaters (or vegetarians) Also- lunch is a great deal. Soup, salad and two sushi rolls for $8.

When I visit the Philadelphia/Wilmington area, I always think about how I can find time in the schedule to eat at Masamoto. I've been several times now and have tried various sushi selections as well as some of the en-trees. Every visit has been outstanding. On my most recent visit, I was traveling alone, so I sat at the sushi bar to have what else? Sushi, of course! I ordered two of my regular favorites Ahi Tuna and Smoked Salmon. They were fantastic. Then, I asked if they had any Red Snapper, as my favorite hometown sushi restaurant had it on the menu, but were out. The chef shared the same message: it's very difficult for them to buy on a regular basis, so they did not have it available. However, he recommended some alternatives. I was feeling adventurous and took him up on the offer. He prepared some Sea Trout - something I never would have ordered on my own. It was amazing! Best of all, this one experience has re-opened my eyes to trying and experiencing even other types of sushi, which I've already started doing at my favorite local Sushi restaurant. The quality of sushi and the expert preparation combined with the reasonable prices make Masamoto a must visit every time I'm in the area. Bring your own Wine!

Went with friends Friday night as I simply could not watch my favorite Phils being shut out. Place was packed, a testimony to the food other Yelpers have already raved about. With so many sushi places within a stone's throw away, I would rate this as good but not the best. Certainly, the sushi/sashimi is heads and shoulders above the other stuff on the menu. If you want Thai/Asian fusion drive 8 miles North on 202 to West Chester. All sushi we ordered were great: rainbow roll, sushi/sashimi potsherd, dragon roll and firecracker. good BYO to hang out. If you liked this place( I did) give Sweet Mango that just opened up the street a try. Less crowded, BYO, equally good choices

Had dinner here with a friend. First time. Last time. The service was pretty bad, especially considering there were 3 different girls who served us. We ordered the black bean chicken and curry chicken for our entrees. The black bean sauce was a bit weak -- not flavorful, and was on the thin side. The curry chicken was mediocre at best. There was a hint of coconut milk in it, but there was a strong desire for more. Both dishes were under-seasoned and lacked balance. Granted, the food isn't terribly expensive, but the quality of our dishes were amateurish at best and truly left something to be desired.

good stuff, menu is elegant and simple. We have been here twice so far... first time we ordered rolls off the menu - good call second time we got the chef's tastings w/ a sushi pizzza (tuna) - better call - good mix of sushi/ creative items... -good value for the sushi recommend: rolls rolls, chef's tasting left us a little hungry, but we ordered another roll and desert, and we where fine... I still can't wait to go back to try the thai food.. the desert rolls is tasty.. maybe rice paper instead of sea weed, but still good.

Masamoto was filled tonight. People laughed and talked as they ate. This place is not your quiet, Asian restaurant. It's an open and brightly colored BYO with a friendly staff and good, honest sushi as a reasonable price. I normally get some sort of tuna roll but tonight opted for a couple of not-so-healthy options such as the Samba roll (with melted mozzarella on top) and the Firecracker (deep fried - yum!).

  • Samantha S.

The sushi was not good, and the service was worse. While there is a dearth of sushi in the area, that shouldn't be a license for places like this to serve subpar food made with frozen components. The chicken satay was practically a reconstituted chicken patty with oiled-down peanut butter as the "sauce." The tempura was floppy and heavy where it should've been light and crispy. And the fish wasn't terribly fresh. The prices weren't bad, but what's the point if you're eating terrible food? And we were left waiting to pay the bill for almost 20 minutes while the entire staff sat down for dinner. Who gives a table a bill then leaves for 20 minutes? That's just asking for a dine 'n dash. Only after I walked out to warm up the car did the waitress realize she needed to attend to my companion's credit card.

Absolutely love Masamoto. This is my favorite Asian restaurant in the area. The sweet potato, spicy tuna, eel, and salmon rolls are just like heaven. The Pad Thai is nice and spicy, and the grilled tofu is off the map. Just great food all around and BYOB is a plus! No corking fees. Wait staff is nice and friendly. This is an absolute gem on 202 for great sushi and asian cuisine. The word of mouth is out on this place, so make sure you put in a reservation for Friday and Saturday nights. If not, you'll be in for a bit of a wait................Enjoy!

Okay enough of an atmosphere. The food was neat and fresh; the broccoli in particular was very crisp and bright green. Would go again to sample more of the sushi; the Cali roll didn't leave that lasting of an impression on me.

So I was introduced to this place, and I was a little skeptic, but that all came to an end when I had their sushi rolls. The sushi was really good and the presentation was well executed. And the Byob makes it even better, nothing like byob restaurant, it sure ally cuts down your bill, lol. As for right now I can't give it five star because their two more places I have to try out, and compare. But I definitely suggest the place.

This is a nice little sushi spot. Came here based off yelp reviews for a first date and it really hit the spot. It's a BYO, so I bought a nice brut champagne that our server immediately put on ice for us. We ordered 3 sushi rolls, Spicy Tuna, Spider and Bamboo. All of them were excellent, some of the best sushi I've ever had. We both had our fill and the bill was 23 dollars. I'm definitely coming back here some more. If I lived close, it'd be a go-to spot.

I'd give it a 2.5 if I could. Food wasn't bad but wasn't great either. Service was alright, but the place was super loud and seems to be more popular because it's "hip" than for food.

I've been wanting to try Masamoto for some time and finally got here last night. Although I have no major complaints, I'm not sure it was worth the wait. We arrived at a weird time, 4pm and the place was totally empty. There is a strange feeling about eating in a restaurant that is empty. The staff was very attentive, but again we were the only customers. Our order arrived very quickly. One thing I wish a sushi restaurant would consider when making a salad is that the customer doesn't have a knife. Why do they always leave the lettuce in such large pieces? It can be very awkward to eat. My daughter had the avocado salad with ginger dressing. The dressing didn't have that "I could drink this" taste that I'm used to. It had too much vinegar for my taste. The salad was a nice sized portion. I had the miso soup, which had an excellent flavor but was served in a very small bowl and no Asian soup spoon, just a metal tablespoon. That might sound picky, but part of sushi is the beauty of the whole meal and that spoon just didn't fit in. Our rolls arrived and I have to say they were beautifully presented. I've posted a picture, but my cell phone doesn't do the food justice. We had the Masamoto, which is rolled in cucumber instead of nori. I love the cool crisp cucumber with the silky fish. This roll was very pretty and had a very good taste and crunch. Next was the volcano roll, this was also very well done. Finally, we had the Hawaiian, that included a bit of pineapple and was wrapped in soy paper. All the sushi tasted very fresh, but the rolls are a tad on the small side. We also had 2 iced teas and our bill came to exactly $40.00 plus tip. Masamoto was very clean, but it seemed a bit too dark in there for me. All in all, I enjoyed our dinner, but it just felt like something was missing. I hope to give it another try.

Definitely the best sushi in the Delaware region by far, however, the service is turtle-like slow. Good thing their food is awesome or else I would never put up with such horrible service. Its ashame, but the food is worth testing your patience. Try the Drunken Spare Ribs and the Wilmington Roll!

Being a sushi snob from SF, I was very surprised to find such fresh, delicious fish from Masamoto's. The first time I came here I was with coworkers and prepared myself to receive sub-par sushi. Boy was I wrong!!! Masamoto's is without a doubt right on par with some of my favorite sushi places in SF (Sushi Bistro and Wayo Sushi in case you are ever in the area). They have very reasonable prices (especially for lunch where you can get two rolls, a salad, and soup for $8+ tax) and their rolls are well made. Personally I usually go for the simple $4-$6 rolls - the rice is cooked perfectly which makes a world of difference. I'd recommend the spicy scallop roll if you're looking to venture outside of the usual california or dragon rolls. Also, this place is BYOB which is a plus.

Excellent food! And large portions. Huge variety of selections from Chinese, to Thai, as well as sushi. Nice atmosphere and comfortable.

Normally love this place but Sunday we had a really disappointing meal. Even the soup was lousy and the servers just plain didn't care about anything. Hope this was just an off night and not the beginning off their demise

As Yelp describes when you select a 3 star rating, I would describe Masamoto as A-OK. We arrived on a crowded Saturday night and waited about 20 minutes for a table despite there being several open that continued to stay open the entire time we were there. Our server was very nice and accommodating. I ordered the miso soup and my husband ordered the gyoza for appetizers. The miso was very average and they oddly served it with a regular spoon not the traditional spoon making it a little awkward. My husband reported the gyoza to be a little bland. For entrees we ordered several rolls. The bamboo roll was very good, the torched bamboo leaf on top gave the salmon a smokey flavor and the roll had just enough spice. The rock roll with spicy tuna, tempura flakes for crunch, avocado and caviar was very tasty. The dill roll and hawaii rolls were OK, nothing special. The prices were great though, very fair for the portions.

Decent variety of Asian cuisine - average flavor. Have been a few times as it is close to my house but can't see how anyone can say great sushi. Its ok. The Chinese and Thai plates are are pretty good and agree the wait staff are typically very good. Good quick lunch place

Fantastic sushi, reasonable prices, and great daily specials. The service was spot-on (thanks Gionna) and the ambiance is modern and relaxing. Definitely check it out if your in the neighborhood and craving some fresh delicious sushi!

The sushi at this place is really great. I don't like raw sushi so I get the volcano roll all the time. It's topped with spicy crab meat. It never seems that crowded and the staff is very polite. Price is reasonable too. Sushi is cheaper than entrees.

This my first sushi place I've been to that's not in the city (Philadelphia) and I have to say I was impressed. The waitress was great and seated us right away. The menu was a little over whelming but this wasn't my first time eating Asian cuisine so I knew what I wanted. The atmosphere inside was awesome. Also the menu did not have any pictures of the food which I really liked. Cause whenever I see pictures of food in menus I get the feeling like I'm eating in a diner. The food itself was great. I had the crisp calamari which was delicious, and came with a great sauce which I forgot whats it called. The Sushi itself was great too. This time I tried some which Ive never had before, the spicy scallop roll and the oyster roll along side the usual Philly roll, dragon roll, and California roll. All in all this was a great experience and I'm definitely coming back.

This review is JUST for the sushi. I am a little bit of a sushi snob so know this going in. I don't take joy in knocking a restaurant and sometimes I'm a little harsh. But to say my experience with their food was not good is putting it lightly. I did not eat in the restaurant, I ordered some take out on a Saturday afternoon (maybe that's why?). I ordered 6 or 7 rolls etc. When I got home I was REALLY looking forward to some good sushi from a place I had not eaten from before. Well, I was disappointed. REALLY disappointed. The taste and quality was simply bad. I ended up eating 3 or 4 bites of the food and threw out the rest in disappointment and frustration. To be more specific, I basically gagged it was so bad and had to go rinse my mouth out. Yes, it was THAT bad. I'm giving it 2 stars and not 1 star because it was take-out on a Saturday afternoon and this could be a "one-off" experience. But I'm definitely not giving this place a second chance. Blech!

Wow! I just moved here from Northern NJ where we had plenty of Asian eateries. I never found one though that was too satisfying though. Go figure- I had to move to Chadds Ford, PA to get really good Chinese & Thai. We ordered lo mein, pad thai, general tso's and spring rolls. Each dish was better than the last. They had so much flavor. I was truly impressed. I will be ordering from Masamoto on a regular basis for sure.

Out of the entire Philadelphia area, this is the best sushi place I have been to. It's reasonably priced, GREAT sushi, and its BYOB!

I just love, love, love this place. The food is just down right good. I like to start off with the soup - either miso or wonton, both are delicious. I usually go for some sushi rolls. One of my favorites is their strawberry roll. But, I've had probably 15 different kinds there and not found one yet that didn't knock my socks off. Simply great asian food, very kind staff. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.
